Tuesday, 30 November 1999 Ritchie Lavene New Egypt,...Hey Dick, I was privelleged enough to meet you this year in Boston, and I'll always remember it (my first sub-3 marathon!) but I was really so genuinely touched how down to earth and friendly you are. With the celebrity status and the hustle and bustle of that busy expo, it would have certainly been "ok" to push me on through, but you stopped to talk and take a picture with me, and i was really excited by your effort. I'm sure it helped on Monday! Thanks again, and I hope our paths will cross again! Sincerely, Ritchie Lavene 2:59:07, Boston 2009! Tuesday, 30 November 1999 TriMoot Spokane, WAMr. Beardsley, Where do I begin? I just listened to your talk that your gave at “The Runner's High 'N Tri†in Arlington Heights, IL and presented on "The Age grouper’s" web site, “** I must say it touched in me in so many ways. When you talked about the Boston in '83, I was there. That was my 1st marathon. What an amazing story and to think I was there at the say day running the same course, albeit, a tad slower (3:25). And then at the end to hear about your addiction to methadone, we, my wife and I, are experiencing that same issue with my youngest daughter, Beth, age 20. You've given me hope and hopefully a direction to go as we attempt to help our daughter. Thanks for your stories and prayers. Paul Tuesday, 30 November 1999 HenryHi, Great article in the recent National Masters News. I`ve always felt 82 Boston was a race between two guys each KNOWING he was going to win. Not thinking he would win. Not hoping he would win. KNOWING. Those of us who were in that race with you(I was 1869 places back)running way off our best times because of the heat, still marvel at those sub 2:09`s. The last of the great American marathoners still getting it done.26 years later another congratualation. Tuesday, 30 November 1999 donna nettleship washingt...Hi Dick, I ran the canyon marathon back in 2003,2004? So I remember you! What an inspirational speaker and story teller you are, May your passion thrive!!! Tuesday, 30 November 1999 Randy Sturgeon Orangevale...Dick and Jill, Such a pleasure to meet you both this past weekend at the Napa Marathon. As a coach and writer I have met a number of running legends. Too many times the person does not measure up to the athletic image. Not the case with you. I found you to be the most enthusiastic, humble, honest, running icon I have ever met. It was an honor and a pleasure to chat with you and Jill. One complaint. I haven't run a marathon in 13 years and swore off them. You have inspired me to maybe try another. I ran 2:33 in my first back in 1981 and I have never run the Boston marathon. Maybe at age 56 I can qualify and maybe run a decent time. Congrats on helping those ladies to get their trials mark and your 2:49. God bless you and yours always, Randy Tuesday, 30 November 1999 Rob Edmonton, AlbertaHi Dick I am preparing to run the Boston Marathon in April 08 my qualifying time was 3:18 in Dec 07. Because of the cold climate in Edmonton I have had to do a lot of my training on a flat track. As a result my training times have reduced and now inconsistent, I am running 4 times a week. 11km, 14km, 17km, long run on Sunday. I am now up to 26km with a time of 2:03 and will complete my last long April 6th which should be 32km. I would really like to have an enjoyable marathon in Boston and finish in about 3:30 - 3:45. Any suggestions? Rob Tuesday, 30 November 1999 On the brinks of achillie...Hey Dick I know you have dealt with achillies problems in the past...you have told me about the stair stretch in all three directions. just curious if you have any other ideas or remidies for this Tuesday, 30 November 1999 RYANELL JOHNSON FOSSTON, ...HELLO FROM FOSSTON, MN -- MY WIFE AND I MET YOU BY HAPPEN-STANCE AT YOUR STORE IN FARGO EARLIER THIS SPRING. I met you at your store in Fargo on a Saturday back in January. Am I the luckiest guy in town. I went into the store to buy some shoes and didn't know you would be there, and here was Dick Beardsley himself helping me pick out a pair of shoes. I really enjoyed the book and just finished reading it on Friday noting your anniversary. Thanks so much for a day I won't soon forget. And, by the way, the shoes are working out great too. Happy trails! Dave Tuesday, 30 November 1999 Gary Rush Montreal, Canad...Dear Dick, It was an honor to meet you again, last fall in Toronto, and years earlier in Ottawa. I ran my first marathon (age 15), and have been running ever since...I admired you as a runner then, from your Grandmas wins, Napa races, and vast international experience. As I also age (yikes, 41!) I have listened to your words, and motivational speeches, and admire your talents both on and off the roads- in the "marathon of life". Thank you for signing a few souvenirs, posing with me after the pasta party, and chatting with Bart Yasso, about the 80's running scene...I was also glad to offer you a Montreal Canadiens hat, and Canada t-shirt as a "thank you" for all you have done for me and many in our country and around the world... Hope to see you on the roads in Canada soon... LONG MAY YOU RUN, Gary Rush photogary@sympatico.ca Tuesday, 30 November 1999 Chuck Davis Richmond Brit...Dick.
