Staying the Course: A Runner's Toughest Race This inspirational autobiography recounts the stunning race in Boston that made Dick a celebrity and the difficult years that followed. It's a story of overcoming extreme obstacles and speaks to anyone who loves competition, who has survived catastrophe, or who has pursued a seemingly impossible goal. This book isn't about falling down, and getting back up again. It's about falling down, getting run over by a truck, and getting up back up again. Over and over.

From one of the greatest high school and colligate runners, Alberto Salazar, to the country bumpkin kid from Minnesota who was average at best, Dick Beardsley. Yet these two men from completely different backgrounds, staged one of the most epic duals in all of sports! Two American runners, Alberto Salazar, a celebrated champion, and Dick Beardsley, a gutsy underdog, going at each other for just under 2 hours and 9 minutes. Neither man broke. The 1982 Boston Marathon merely came to a thrilling, shattering end, exacting such an enormous toll that neither man ever ran as well again. Beardsley, the most innocent of men, descended into felony drug addiction, and Salazar, the toughest of men, fell prey to depression.

| Dick Beardsley Poster This artwork of Dick Beardsley was created by using old-fashioned pen and ink and a technique known as pointillism. After drawing the outlines of the picture on illustration board, I added shading with thousands of dots. The darker the shade, the more concentrated the dots are. The end result is a picture that looks photo-realistic from a distance.
